Action Soccer - PC

We've described before how our hearts turn grey every time a software firm tells us a game is "aimed at kids and beginners rather than hardened gamers".

It tends to suggest the title in question is really, really awful.

But when they go on to say that it'll only cost £25 and comes with a free six-button joypad, we feel slightly better, and often manage to get drunk.

Action Soccer has apparently been described by the press in its French homeland as "the best arcade football game ever", which only goes to prove the old saying: "Pompt de div nation".

See, its harshly vibrant colours, choice of 2D side-to-side or FIFA-style 3D views, "comedy" teams and ugly front-end give it a 16-bit retro feel.

In these terms, though, it plays a fair game, and has a reasonable stack of options. Well worth a thought if you haven't got a footie game. Or a joypad.
